I think this should be a BIG sign for MIC to review their organisation for good.

KUALA LUMPUR: The dinner to mark the eve of the MIC’s annual general meeting today was marred by delegates walking out earlier than scheduled. This is the first time that such a dinner ended abruptly – half an hour before it was supposed to.

Furious at the exit of the delegates from the Putra World Trade Centre’s Dewan Tun Razak, a seemingly annoyed Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu left the function at 9.55pm.Earlier, the former works minister tried to cajole the delegates to stay back.

“Please come back and have your dinner. We spent so much of money organising the dinner,” he told them.Later, Samy Vellu gave a short speech and even sang a song.“If you (delegates) think this function is a waste of time, then I apologise,” said the party president before leaving.

About 2,800 delegates comprising party branch leaders attended the dinner reception which was scheduled to end at 10.30pm.Former party deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam said Samy Vellu was “hurt by the delegates’ action – they were chatting among themselves and not paying attention to the cultural show that was going on”.

It is understood that Samy Vellu’s ire started with party information chief Datuk M. Saravanan leaving the function hall at 8.45pm, after having stayed for about 15 minutes. When contacted, Saravanan, who is the Deputy Federal Territory Minister, confirmed that he had left early.

“I walked out as there was no protocol at the dinner,” he told The Star.

He added that he was cheesed off because Subramaniam was seated at the main table with the other MIC leaders and prominent Indian businessmen.

“As the party’s information chief and Deputy Minister, I was not given due respect.

“I don’t know on what basis Subramaniam was given prominence. He is just the division leader,” he said.
