KLUANG: Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Saturday he would countersue the individual who filed a defamation suit against him at the Johor Baru High Court.

Syed Hamid, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kota Tinggi and the head of the Kota Tinggi Umno division, said needed to take the action to put a stop to lies about him of late that were being spread in poison pen letters and on the Internet.

He told this to reporters Saturday after launching the Kluang Prison’s parole scheme and Integrity School here.

He was commenting on the action by a member of the Kota Tinggi Umno division, A. Malik Abdul Rahman or better known as Daeng Malik, who filed the defamation suit naming him as the first defendant and his press secretary Rosleli as the second defendant.

He believed the suit against him was prompted by certain quarters who wanted to prevent him from defending his division chief’s post at Umno’s upcoming elections.

Syed Hamid, however, did not say when he would be filing the countersuit.

On the parole scheme, he said an initial batch of 64 prisoners would be released from prisons nationwide from Sunday and be placed under the supervision of parole officers for a period of one year. – Bernama
