Fully Half Emty Story of Renjuna

(I was there behind VVIP (as i was invited as VIP……………… hehehe) tried to shoot few peektures with PDA coz i left my DSLR in my car)
MESRA MALL shopping complex on Friday opened its doors to shoppers in the Kerteh which was dubbed at Petroleum Hub in Peninsular Malaysia. The shopping center which was built on a sprawling 30 acres site, “Mesra Mall” promises to be a new landmark for shoppers and tourists coming to Terengganu. With Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd managing the operations, the complex is developed by KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd through its two subsidiaries — Metro Kemasik Sdn Bhd and KLCC Projek Sdn Bhd.
For me who has the chance to see the early days of the development during Ground Breaking Ceremony till the Opening Ceremony, this is quite historical project which have involved great determination from the developer and KLCC parent company. ie PETRONAS. This Mesra Mall will serve the people around here and particularly PETRONAS Staff who currently spending their weekend in Kuantan. Mesra Mall floor area is 310,151 sq.ft and serves the people with its One-Stop Leasure, Shopping, Recreational concept.
The shop lot is almost full and its comprises of 40 retail outlets, 12 unit food stalls (in one food-court, 2 restaurant/cafe, 2 banks, and 2 push-cart stalls. The main or anchor tenant is Giant (Hypermarket) and Giant (Supermarket) but unfortunately during Opening Ceremony, its yet to be opened to public.
There are also Futsal Court, Cinema, Bowling Alley, Squash Court to be opened within a month ( as per KLCC CEO welcoming speech) and Mesra Mall also was built with approx. 800 pax Multi-Purpose hall. CEO of KLCC also added that this complex would serve as a catalyst for commercial development in Kemaman district and in Terengganu, adding that it had provided jobs for about 500 locals.
Eventhough with the recent development brought by PETRONAS in Kerteh, it is still Kerteh as we always know and by comparing with MIri which is also Petroleum Hub in Sarawak, then we realise that Kerteh is still far behind as Miri was declares as a CITY 2 or 3 years ago. But nevertherless MESRA MALL quite a blessing to PETRONAS Staff especially who has been transfered from KLCC which well known for it’s ‘Canggih-Manggih’ Suria KLCC.
But sincerely for me … nothing change except may be I have the chance to have a RM 8.00 burger as my lunch there at Burger King or my quite little time with my lady in future to be opened Mini Cinema.
Note — BTW, TQ KLCC and PETRONAS for this….

It is a good start to boost more local development as well as job opportunity for other states & eradicate the mind-set that only KL, Penang & JB has a better job scope. Good on ya!

I don’t mean to shoot quick criticisms but it’s still a tight climb so to speak. I don’t think the locals’ primary agenda’s on job opportunities per se but rather the “progression of things”. It’s a too little, too late and still a ringgit short gesture if you ask me. My gf just recently moved there (temporarily) to help facilitate for an outlet opening. And as she’s technically not native to the area, so she’ll be doing a 3-6 month stint until she can get locals to apply in and make up as the perma staff. Roughly 6-7 prospective people had called in prior to her arrival but NONE made it for the interviews. I have a proper uncle there residing at Rantau Laut whom I’d hop in heaps in a year, so I happen to have a good authority of what’s going on. Coincidentally I just got back couple of days ago from visiting my gf and to be blunt a few things had left me wondering… For starters, why build the mall as a so-called “here’s an architectural gateway to Kerteh” stance in Kemasik? The Bandar Baru Kerteh has oodles of space and the people there definitely deserve this action after so long? Secondly this just proves that there’s unnecessarily too much emphasis to place the top demographics to be consisted of just mainly Rantau people? It’s safe to assume that there’s a high 70% probability that most Rantau people are “weekender” O&G and related workforce who aren’t perma to the area. Can’t blame them. Why stay when you’re getting paid enough monthly to just fly in, out or drive only for necessary call-ins? That day I had to scour a bunch of Kedai Mesras just to hunt for The Star newspaper which is a glaring indicator of basic situations. If you can’t even expect simple sundries or surrounding small shops to open at 7am, how is this going to help and leverage the base lifestyle for prospective workers? It’s unrealistic to expect 90% pure local powered operations until the situation gets rectified. Maybe it’s a chicken and egg situation I know but then again my gf had to be placed in an apartment a good drive away from the mall, yet another sign of logistical headache. The main roads with slapped on devs on the sides and lack of public transportation kinda suggests that there’s this fantasy of having RM1.00/litre oil forever? For PETRONAS people maybe but what about the locals? Hopefully this will be that start they’ve been waiting for…

I lived there from 2001-2005. Sadly nothing can be seen during those days. Now I feel kinda regret for missing this great mall which was then called Petronas Mall. Saved for the McD in Bandar Baru of course. Haha

I just moved in here about 6 months ago. before this, i only passed by here a few times a year since my parents hometown is in KT. definitely mesra mall is a very much look forward by us who lived here. the location, the way i see it, is a great step to elevate surrounding area (kemasik) and not just kerteh. i suspect, it also took into account of local supermarket/grocery shops/markets commonly available in kerteh n toward paka. common urbanites in kerteh have no problem driving a bit further to get what they want as what has been proven in KL. 2 main local banks also a great boost in that area. hopefully, mesra mall will bring changes what this area has been long due.
so what’s up with giant opening delay, anyway?

As a local people residing nearby (I can say nearby) who is a frequent visitor to Pantai Kemasik (nearby Mesra Mall), if they just build this mall solely and primarily for the sake of Petronas Staff, i dont think it serve the purposes, dont think local people will get the benefits…I can safely say only Giant can serve the local people as they hunt for cheaper household items etc…but for Secret Recipe, MacD and all those capitalist-owned premises…they for sure will pack their things back in less than 6 months after operating.
Why choose kemasik? not Bandar Baru Kerteh or even Dungun town??? Is there any political influences in the decision making???Hopefully not otherwise for sureteh mall will be based in Kijal i guess (guess why i said Kijal)
Pleaselah dont bluff and fool ‘orang kampung’ with your so-called social responsiblities by just developing one shopping mall.
Trust me…this mall or even all malls in Malaysia…there is only ONE intention :- To exploit the people!!! and of course it will exacerbate the ever-worsening social and youth problems here in kemasik or even in any place in malaysia….
I prefer kampung style rather than mall-licious portrait of my place of domicile…

Ah… I’ve lived there for what can be seen as the majority of my life.. I’m 16 right now and I left there when I was 13 and what I can say is that McD’s opening was considered a big deal then because the nearest McD at that time would be in Kuantan or Kemaman.. I’m feeling nostalgic now and wondering how is Kerteh..But the Mesra Mall would probably be for expatriats, petronas families and/or those who are neither but well to do.. Nonetheless it’s still something..

As for me the Mesra Mall is Superb!! Why superb ? this is because the mall is really customer friendly. The facilities provided is very good. The facilities that I’m talking about is the Musolla or Surau.Very spacious ,clean and cold..heeehe..( it shows that the aircond are working well)..
One of my fren told me the reason why the opening of giant was delayed because some of the entrepreneur ( kedai runcit) around the area were not happy with the Giant as it will affect their business.
But i’m not sure whether it is true or not.
As for me..I like shopping there.I stop there twice while on the way to Kuala Terengganu.I think people in that area should be very proud of it.Because people in Kuala Terengganu don’t have the facilities provided just like in mesra mall just in one shot.We have to wait patiently to get those facilities in town.
In Mesra mall there are cinema, futsal, bowling n squash court.Where else can you find the facilities provided just under one roof????
So people( those who are not thankful)..please be thankfull and do not complaints. Ignore all those thoughts about who will get the benefit. As the benefit given to the residents is good enough…

This facility is fantastic but with Giant is permenently closed, there is nothing much local people can benefit from this facility.

hi all…me as Kemasik citizen really proud as PETRONAS built Mesra Mall at my place. Altho some may wonder why choose Kemasik..but for me..it is really eye opening for those who are staying in very “nelayan” area to at least buy some groceries just near to their houses. I’m not tring to criticize people around there but for me..instead of them spending money away from Terengganu with their not-so-stable-income, why dont they go somewhere nearby? This also applicable to PETRONAS staff staying nearby.
For Mesra Mall itself, all chosen shops are ok enough, 1 bookstore..every single shop has own specialties..no competition at all..we dont want Mesra Mall to be like Centre Point in Kemaman where most of shop lots are not rented. ” Hidup Segan Mati Tak Mahu” The mall also has few other facilities..all in one..Giant aka TMC already open and thousand of people coming to Kemasik!! free parking lots+PETRONAS station nearby+surau+futsal+squash+etc..what else do u wish for?
Hopefully, Mesra Mall will maintain their good services and contribute to Terengganu specifically..Despite of other bad things happen..we need to take this as lumrah alam..life must go on..most important do appreciate what we have.. TQ
