Transformers, the electrifying blockbuster movie celebrated for its multi-generational appeal will be developed as a new theme park ride at Universal Studios Singapore on the resort island of Sentosa here. Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) announced here today that the new rides would be jointly developed by the U.S-based Universal Parks & Resorts, toy games maker Hasbro Inc. and film company DreamWorks Pictures.
The rides, the first of its kind in the world and which will incorporate 3D-high definition media, special effects and robotics technology is scheduled to make its debut here in 2011.A similar ride will also be installed at the Universal Studios in Hollywood in the United States after the one in Singapore is completed in the same year.
RWS Chief Executive Officer Tan Hee Teck said it was great that Asia would be the launch pad for the first Transformers attraction at the mega resort that is home to Universal Studios Singapore. Transformers was introduced to the United States in 1983 but traces its roots to Asia. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron are familiar names to Asian audiences who grew up with the robot toys and love the movie. Transformers broke box office records on its way to gathering worldwide gross revenues of over $706 million, the highest non-sequel gross of any movie last year.
The sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on June 26 next year.
