Such a great efforts by our Perusahaan Automobil Kedua (Perodua) to give free installation of rear seat belt for those who are still not comply with the regulation. Local carmaker had allocated a total of RM41.8 million to supply and install the rear seat belts for its Kancil, Kenari, Kelisa, Kembara and Rusa models.

Announced by Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat, he said, for security reason however, the installation could only be made at Perodua service centres nationwide. Previosly, Ong said last month that apart from Perodua, several other car manufacturers would provide free installation of the seat belts.

For Info, government had made it compulsory for rear passengers to wear the seat belts starting Jan 1 next year but cars registered before 1995, which are without the safety feature, were given a three-year grace period from June 1 this year to install the belts.

Looking at this and  after sales services point of view given by Perodua, I would like to make a suggestion that It is Perodua Kembara that EXCO of Terengganu should buy and not the Mercedes C200 which are making some bad headline this few days. Completed with air bag and reasonable fuel consumption, this move surely waht we can say ‘ cost cutting’ measure.

By the way, Perodua got DVVT some more….

Another moral booster for PKR and the major setback for MCA and Barisan Nasional. This is maybe one of the many ‘clues’ given by DSAI earlier (few months ago) in declaring his pursuit to PUTRAJAYA by 16th September 2008.

————————————————————–

PETALING JAYA: Former MCA central committee member Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew, who quit the party on Thursday, will be joining PKR soon.

Dr Tan, who was still discussing the details with PKR leaders, said she had decided to join the party.

“However, we never discussed party posts. As for me, the party positions are for those younger politicians who want to move up the ladder. I am not keen on party posts.

“I am looking for a platform to contribute to the nation. PKR is a good option for me to continue serving the people,” she said in a telephone interview here yesterday.

She said many of her supporters, including MCA members, might follow her footsteps in joining PKR.

The former Klang MP also denied that she had been offered the Klang Municipal Council president’s job by the Pakatan Rakyat state government.

On Thursday, Dr Tan, who described her decision to leave the party that she had served for 20 years as painful, sent her resignation by facsimile to the MCA headquarters.

Dr Tan said she had talked to PKR leaders, including its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on various national issues and Anwar had personally extended the invitation to her.

“I feel very touched. We have discussed how we can work together for the people as well as in handling sensitive issues.”

During a meeting with PKR members yesterday afternoon, vice-president Azmin Ali announced that Dr Tan and several MCA members would be crossing over to the party.

As this word is very popular nowdays, ‘Populist’ is the exact word to the implementation of this petrol subsidise. There are many more bunch of people realy need this, like small-operator farmers, fisherman and all the rakyat which household income less than RM2000.00. They should also get this reward or token which i believe could be implemented if using ‘extra special’ dividen of RM6 Bil given by PETRONAS.

PUTRAJAYA: The 40,231 owners of petrol-powered taxis and hire cars in the country will be eligible to buy subsidised petrol at RM1.92 a litre with a quota of 720 litres per month for each vehicle.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said the vehicle owners could submit applications for the subsidy to the ministry or its offices nationwide beginning Monday.

He said they would be given fleet cards just like for diesel-powered taxis and hire cars.

“When the government restructured the petrol and diesel subsidy in June, owners of taxies and hire cars running on petrol felt the pinch as there was no corresponding increase in the fare rates,” said Shahrir.

“Concerned about their plight and to ensure they continue to serve the public, the Government has agreed to give them a petrol subsidy,” he told reporters after holding a meeting with food industry entrepreneurs at his ministry here yesterday.

Shahrir said the provision of this subsidy entailed a cost of RM271mil a year.

He said the 720-litre limit was determined based on the coverage area of the vehicles as provided for under the licensing terms of the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB). – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim left the Hospital Kuala Lumpur at 10.25pm after undergoing medical checks.

He was taken out of the hospital in an unmarked police car.

It is learnt that he was brought back to the city police headquarters.

Anwar had earlier arrived at at about 8.45pm Wednesday after spending about seven hours at the city police headquarters.

He was taken to the royal ward amidst heavy police presence.

Anwar was seen to be in good spirits and even waved to reporters gathered at the hospital entrance.

Earlier, he arrived at the city police headquarters here in a white Pajero at 1.15pm after being arrested by the police.

He had been arrested in front of his house in Bukit Segambut.

His lawyer Sankara Nair said the police told Anwar that he was being arrested for investigations under Section 377C of the Penal Code for alleged “carnal intercourse against the order of nature.”

On June 28, his 23-year-old former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had lodged a police report alleging that Anwar had sodomised him.

Asked if Anwar was handcuffed, Sankara said he was not.

CID director Commissioner Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin said Anwar will be taken to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a routine checkup which was a required procedure.

He said besides the checkup that was for record purposes the police had also extended other facilities including allowing his family members and lawyers to visit him.

“He is also allowed to go for his prayers. We will accord whatever facility the laws allow … that we can assure.

“We urge the public to not to listen to rumours saying he is not allowed to meet his family or even say his prayers,” he said, adding that Anwar was safe and sound.

Anwar started giving his statement to the police at about 2.50pm, said another of his lawyers R. Sivarasa, also the Subang Member of Parliament (MP).

Anwar’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said he had called her from the police car to say he had been arrested.

“He asked me to go home to look after the children,” she said when met in Parliament lobby earlier Wednesday.

Wan Azizah was at the city police headquarters by 1.30pm, followed 25 minutes later by daughter Nurul Izzah and her husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir.

Police said they arrested Anwar an hour earlier before the 2pm deadline because they feared he would not show up.

Comm Bakri said Anwar was supposed to have gone directly to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters immediately after giving his statement to the ACA in Putrajaya.

“However, we were informed that after he left the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya, he had changed his route and was heading back to his house in (Bukit) Segambut,” he said.

“He was arrested as we had reason to believe he was not going to show up,” he claimed.

“We wish to point out that Anwar had initially agreed to meet us on Monday but he failed to keep his appointment,” Comm Bakri added.

It is learnt that the arrest was carried out by Bukit Aman’s Serious Crimes Division and not by the Special Action Force (UTK).

PKR members and about 200 supporters had gathered at the city police headquarters after news of the arrest went out.

“I don’t believe this is happening. We will seek to get him released as soon as possible,” said DAP chairman Karpal Singh.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang described the arrest as “highly provocative and shocking.”

Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusuf, who was there as Anwar’s lawyer, said the matter would be brought up in Parliament.

The police had on Tuesday given Anwar a 2pm deadline to answer allegations of sodomy.

Anwar was at the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am Wednesday over reports he had lodged against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General (A-G).

In his report lodged on July 1, Anwar had alleged that IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan and A-G Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail had fabricated evidence in the “black eye” investigation in 1999.

Musa was the investigating officer and Abdul Gani led the prosecution in the case in which Anwar had been beaten up by the IGP then, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Noor.

The two were questioned by the ACA on July 11.

Anwar left the ACA headquarters at 12.20pm.

He said the ACA had not completed its interview, but he had to cut it short to make his 2pm appointment with the police to answer questions over the sodomy allegation made against him.

“I have adduced all evidence to the ACA officers and I am satisfied with the line of questioning,” he said, adding that everything he said had been recorded.

The interview was conducted by a few ACA officers, said Anwar, who arrived at the agency accompanied by lawyers Sankara, Sivarasa, Param Cumaraswamy and dozens of supporters.

“If I am arrested, I guess the ACA can do their follow-up interview at the lock-up,” he joked.
