A Particle of Boredom

It is true that many said that every man got his ego. These few days Anwar Ibrahim and Pak Lah in their fullest of ego between them.

Opposition leader and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called for Parliament to convene an emergency session to debate an opposition motion of no confidence in the government. Speaking at a press conference here, Anwar said he sent a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today on the matter and wanted an answer on it at the latest by Tuesday (Sept 23).

He also claimed that he had secured a majority in Parliament to enable him to form the new government but would not reveal the names of Barisan Nasional members of parliament crossing over for him to achieve it. Should the request not materialise, he said the component parties in the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition would be holding a special meeting thereafter to contemplate their next course of action (in forming the new government).

BUT late in the afternoon, Pak Lah said in his media conference that there is no need to call for an emergency session of Parliament because the next session is soon anyway. He told this to reporters Thursday after the Umno supreme council at PWTC.For information, Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to resume its sitting on Oct 13. To a question on whether Anwar would be arrested under the ISA, the Prime Minister said there was no suggestion from him to use the ISA on anyone.
